Shavon Coleman, Langston Galloway Headline Thibodaux High Tournament

Top 150 Players Shavon Coleman(Left) of Thibodaux and Langston Galloway(right) of Christian Life Highlight the Thibodaux High Tournament

Thibodaux High is hosting their annual Thanksgiving classic starting today Nov 23 - 25 at Thiboduax High school. There is a good group of talent in this event that is headlined by the host Tigers of Thibodaux and the Christian Life Crusaders who are coming off a tournament title at the Ballin on the Red event in Shreveport. Not only did they win the event, they did it in impressive fashion as they defeated 5A Airline, 2A Riverside who is nationally ranked on Rivals.com 100 top teams and 4A Bossier, last year's state runner-up. Thibodaux is coming in short-handed with their football kids still on the gridiron. They will be relying heavily on top 100 player Shavon Coleman who is averaging close to 30 a game to start the season. Coleman is a smooth guard that can flat score the basketball. For THS to have a chance at winning this event they will need a great showing for Coleman and the role players to play solid defense and limit turnovers. This will be a great tournament this week and I want to wish THS coach Tony Clark good luck this week while he hosts this fine event.

The Schedule is as follows

Monday, November 23

Game 1 Christian Life vs South Terrebonne 3;30

Game 2 Helen Cox vs Terrebonne 5:00

Game 3 Parkview Baptist vs Thibodaux 6:30

Game 4 Vandebilt Catholic vs Deridder 8:00

Galloway gets MVP, CLA win Inaugural Ballin' on the Red Shootout Title

Marlon Bell (left), Kaleb Knight and McCall Tomeny(right) show off there Ballin' On the Red Championship Trophy as Christian Life defeated Bossier 56-50 on saturday night

On Saturday night it was a classic battle of two highly talented teams and two teams picked to be in the finals of their respective state championship games, Bossier in 4A and Christian Life in 1A. With four starters back for both teams and the main players back, this game was destined for greatness and it didn't disappoint. Bossier jumped out early with an 8-0 early in the 1st quarter. Within minutes, CLA went back to fundamentals and went on a run of their own as they were down 8-7 midway through the first. After tough defense by both teams, Bossier led 11-10 after 1. In the second quarter it was all CLA as they used their height advantage to score inside and led 19-15 with 4:37 left. CLA continued to flex it's muscle as tourney MVP Langston Galloway stepped it up with a couple highlight reel dunks before halftime. One where he jumped outside the lane for the one-handed dunk and another baseline off dribble-drive with two hands. CLA took the halftime lead 23-18. Galloway led the way with 6, while Devonte Francis had 7 for Bossier.

The second half began much the same way the first ended, as CLA took a 29-23 lead with 3:03 left in the quarter as they got to outrunning Bossier in the quarter. and took a 33-30 lead as Bossier started a comeback behind junior Guard Jalan West who had 8 points in the 3rd after being held scoreless in the first half.  To start the fourth, a 3-point barrage by Galloway and Northwestern State signee Patrick Robinson put the 'Saders up 10. Galloway finished the run with a tomahawk dunk. As the quarter kept going, CLA held it's own as it controlled the rest of the game and took home the victory, but not before Bossier tried to make it a game late. CLA's Galloway led the way with 19 points while Devonte Francis had 16 for Bossier.

CLA's Patrick Robinson scored 13 in the

Southwood upsets St. Thomas More 74-67 in OT

At Southwood,  senior guard Mike Davis buried a three with 17 seconds to play to force overtime. Southwood (2-0) outscored the Cougars (1-1) 9-2 in overtime. Senior, Dean Johns, one of the state's underrated shooting guards,  had five of the nine Southwood points in overtime.

"Our players played hard and through a poor shooting night to beat a very good St. Thomas More team. Our three senior guards used their quickness to get to the basket and were able to get some key steals tonight." Southwood coach Norm Picou said. "Sophmore Eric Howard came in off the bench to provide some great defensive play at the end of the game." Picou added.

After a finishing the year tough last season, Southwood is looking to make a deep playoff run this season with a veteran and experienced squad. With a huge test in STM out the way and coming away with a win, the Cowboys and coach Picou have proved that they could be a team to watch for in 5A.

Glen Oaks High School Wins Woodlawn Shootout!!

Pictured Below: Front: Brandon Vessell (Left to Right Back Row:) Andre Scott, Brian Williams, Brandon Johnson, Tre Drye, Tiron Brown, Erron Chesterfield, Kenny Connor

After a a fairly easy win over Scotlandville on Wednesday night and a tough win over rival Istouma by 9 on Thursday night it was time for a showdown with an old rival that will be renewed with the new re-districtricting and classification numbers in. On saturday night Glen Oaks on took on Host Woodlawn for the championship of the annual Woodlawn Shootout. In a game that has been getting a lot of attention in Baton Rouge in the previous months, Glen Oaks proved all rumore to be just that, at least on saturday night anyways. Due to WHS getting several transefers from Lee High and one from Christian Life in Craig McFerrin, along with senior leaders Braylon Lazare and Eric Vidrine back, this was supposed to be the team to challenge Istrouma and GOHS for the district title. After taking a halftime lead of 32-28 over the WHS, Glen Oaks went on to step on the throat of the Purple Panthers to prove which Panthers rule in district 7-4A as on this night it was the Glen Oaks Panthers that proved to be better. as they took home the Championship with a 63-47 win.

In other action Demarcus Veal led Plaquemine with 16 points and the win over Helen Cox of Harvey to win the consolation championship. For the 3rd place game it was 15 point's from Steven Jackson and Roy Knox each to lead the Istrouma Indians over Broadmoor 56-38.

Glen Oaks Tre Drye in action during the summer

Glen Oaks' Brian Willams, and Oklahoma State signee led Glen Oaks all weekend to capture the MVP of the tourney but only with help from guards Andre Scott and Brandon Johnson. Along with Tre Drye who captured all-tourney honors as well.
